The Committee for Development Policy (CDP) is a subsidiary body of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. The CDP provides inputs and independent advice to the Economic and Social Council on various development issues, including on the identification of Least Developed Countries (LDCs). Within the Development Policy and Analysis Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the Intern reports to the project manager of the LDC project implemented by the CDP Unit on capacity building for removing constraints in utilizing trade-related international support measures for LDCs. The internship is for two months with an opportunity of extension, depending on the needs of the CDP Unit. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days a week (35 hours) under the supervision of the staff member to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. The duties and responsibilities of the intern will cover the following activities:
prepare concise summary notes on publications, papers and other documents related to LDCs for the LDC Portal website (available at www.un.org/ldcportal);
draft and edit articles to be posted on the LDC portal website;
research and analysis related to the topic of LDCs and the international support measures for LDCs;
perform administrative tasks related to the project undertaken on trade-related international support measures for LDCs.

The intern is expected to:

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher); or
If pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of fullâ-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
Be computer literate in standard software applications.

Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internship Programme and knowledge of Chinese is desirable.
