The Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is the principal source of technical assistance, grants and equity financing for private sector development in Latin America and
the Caribbean (LAC). The MIF is searching for a dedicated, energetic and team-oriented individual for the position of Budget Senior Analyst to work in the MIF's Front Office.
Activities include:
a) support in the preparation of annual work programs and administrative budgets;
b) advice on maximizing cost efficiencies;
c) preparation of periodic reports and analyses of budget execution and end-year forecasts during the fiscal year;
d) provision of support and technical advice to MIF units and assessment of needs for budgetary adjustments;
e) support in the use of systems and training to the staff; and f) support in the development of changes to improve the quality of MIF information in budgetary and related systems controls.
As part of the MIF budget team, the incumbent will participate in the various activities related to the preparation and execution of the administrative budgets, as well as other sources of funding that the MIF administers.
Key Responsibilities
• Researches, collects, compiles and analyzes data to support the budget preparation process, participating in the program and budget proposal preparation and assisting in the preparation of other documents and special studies/reports.
• Monitors departmental budget execution and performs program and budget analysis to ensure accuracy and quality control of the data.
• Supports in the analyses of budget proposals and work programs, providing guidance to units in the preparation of budgetary data and related reports, identifying budgetary issues and recommending solutions.
• Prepares quantitative analysis, and monitors program allocation and activity-based costs of units.
• Provides support to financial accounting information systems, and maintenance of databases.
• Produces reports on an ongoing basis in support of decision-making processes.
• Assists in the updating of internal budgetary guidelines and procedures.
• Provides support in the administration of other funding sources that the MIF administers.
Requirements (*)
Education: Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) or Licenciatura in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Project Management or a closely related field. Emphasis on Quantitative Analysis.
Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in accounting, finance or budgetary functions. Strong quantitative and analytical skills. Working knowledge of PC applications and computerized systems and their application to budget work. Experience with Hyperion Planning, Lawson and/or other similar budget and financial accounting systems is highly desirable. Prior exposure to performance-based budgeting and experience in working with budgets in an international organization are highly desirable.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Spanish, both oral and written.

Has knowledge and practical experience on one or more of the following accounting/budgeting automated applications, and reporting tools: Cognos, Essbase, Lawson, Hyperion, Peoplesoft, or similar applications.
