Organizational Setting and Reporting
The position is located in Office of the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Resources Management and is for a minimum period of two months, with possibility of extension.

The internship is unpaid.

The internship will begin on 01 June and end on 31 July 2012. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

The Office of the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Resources Management (OASG/OHRM) of the United Nations in New York is currently looking for someone with passion for communications who is enrolled in graduate school and is interested in an internship in a dynamic, international office which is mandated to provide human resources services across the global UN Secretariat.
The UN Secretariat is undergoing a number of HR management reforms. In April 2010, a new external outreach campaign to promote employment at the United Nations was launched through the UN Careers Portal (careers.un.org). The portal is a centerpiece of a brand developed for Careers at the UN. It communicates the type of talent the Organization is looking for to implement its mandates and it explains what makes the UN an employer of choice.
Against this backdrop, you will be part of a small team working on an exciting and ambitious new communications project to develop an internal website with a similar look and feel to the Careers Portal. The new site will provide user-friendly, engaging HR information to our 44,000 diverse staff working around the world.

Specifically, this intern will be involved with the first phase the website project, which will include conducting stakeholder discussions, focus groups and best practice research to help pave the way for the development of a cutting-edge website.

Organizational skills are a must for this role and an interest in research, writing and website or graphic design would also be an advantage.

Education
Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree;
Be computer literate in standard software applications;
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
Have a demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in this intership.

Languages
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
