This post is located at the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, and Mechanical (HVAC/Mech) Unit, Plant Engineering Section (PES), Facilities Management Service (FMS), Facilities and Commercial Services Division (FCSD), Office of Central Support Services (OCSS), Department of Management. The incumbent reports to the Foreman of HVAC Shop, PES.

Responsibilities
• Under the direction of the General Foreman and Foreman of the HVAC unit, as an HVAC Technician, the incumbent is responsible for the proper maintenance of the operation of all machinery in the air conditioning Compressor Room Plant and other related equipment throughout the UN Complex and offsite leased premises such as breakdown of steam turbines for the purpose of inspecting and repairing of internal parts, if necessary; inspection of centrifugal refrigeration compressor's internal parts, oil pumps, oil coolers etc; proper shaft alignment of all pumps and replacement of seals, when necessary.
• Inspects and cleans all Freon, surface, after condenses and performance of hydrostatic test. Operation of four (4) steam driven centrifugal compressors and related equipment in the Compressor Room; duties include start up and shutting down of machinery according to weather conditions; monitoring of temperature pressures on air conditioning equipment to assure safe and proper operation.
• Making adjustments as load conditions change.
• Keeping hourly as well as daily logs on pressures and temperature of machinery, steam consumption and running time of all equipment.
• Taking specific gravity test on brine to assure freeze protection on system.
• Respond to temperature complaints and making thermostat adjustments throughout the UN Complex during off hours (4pm to 8 am), weekends and holidays.
• Also maintains air handling and connecting units such as rebuilding and replacing steam and angle valves, replacing shaft bearings on air handlers.
• Inspecting and cleaning steam and brine coils on fan units. Good physical condition in order to perform physical duties such as bending or lifting of tools; and performs other duties as may be assigned by the Foreman of the Shop.

Education
High school or equivalent Trade School Diploma.

Work Experience
• Minimum five years of progressive experience in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) trade, including proficient in use of tools related to trade, is required.
• Experience with BMS systems is desirable. EPA universal incense is required. New York City refrigeration operators licence is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.

Assessment Method
As part of the evaluation of your application for this position, a written/technical test and/or a competency-based interview will be conducted.
