Organizational Setting and Reporting
The post is located in the Office of the Chief, Travel and Transportation Section (TTS), CAS/FCSD/OCSS.

Responsibilities
  • Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Travel and Transportation Section, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Participate in and oversee the planning, specification, design, development, testing, debugging, implementation, training and support of all new computer systems and upgrades to existing systems using UN established standards for IT technologies, programming languages and tools.
  • Independently liaise with users to define and specify requirements for these systems.
  • Provide full range of technical assistance and team supervision in the areas of server, desktop and application; operations, administration and support.
  • Undertake complex troubleshooting of computer systems.
  • Liaise with the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) and software vendors for maintaining the efficient and reliable operation of server systems and off the shelf software.
  • Ensure 24x7 operations and monitoring of assigned systems.
  • Identify the need for new systems or re-engineering of existing systems to meet the changing needs of the Section.
  • Forecast the ICT budgetary needs of the section and manage funds allotted for ICT use.
  • Write and maintain the documentation of systems pertinent to operations and system administration.
  • Provide guidance to new/junior staff. Act as an IMIS security liaison officer and as a technical resource to management.
  • Perform ad-hoc related duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Supplemental courses/technical certificate in relevant technologies and software systems are desirable.

Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of progressive work experience in information systems analysis and programming, including practical experience in systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area is required. Experience of user support on IMIS is desirable. At least 4 years' hands-on programming experience on 3 or more of the following technologies is required: Ruby on Rails, dotNET, Transact-SQL, Classic ASP, SAP Experience in PRINCE2 Project Management methodologies is desirable. Prior work experience in international organizations is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.

Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Passing the Administrative Assessment Support Test (ASAT) at Headquarters or an equivalent recognised locally-administered test at a United Nations Office is a prerequisite for recruitment consideration in the General Service category in the United Nations Secretariat.
