The Deputy Director of the UN Medical Services Division supports the Medical Director in the delivery of medical services for the Organization.
Responsibilities
The Deputy Director will be responsible for the following duties:
1. The Incumbent assists the Director in worldwide responsibilities pertaining to the United Nations, its Funds and Programmes, designing, developing and updating medical standards and policies, procedures and guidelines for health-related issues and assists in preparing the Division budgets.
2. S/he undertakes field visits to assess and monitor health environments and existing medical facilities, especially in hardship duty stations in order to recommend to the administration on actions to strengthen health care delivery to the UN staff and their dependants in the field.
3. Prepares and advises the Director on work related illness/injury cases to be presented to Advisory Board on Compensation Claims and possible disability cases to be presented to the UN Staff Pension Committee, Standing Committee of the United Nations Staff Pension Fund and represents the Director in Health and Life Insurance Committee meetings.
4. The Deputy Director deputizes for the Director in his/her absence and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the UN Medical Services Division in-clinical and medico-administrative areas, including management of medical and administrative staff, overseeing of medical and technical equipment and supply, enhancing staff health promotion, office ergonomics and advices the administration on monitoring of work environment.

Education
Advanced degree of Doctorate of Medicine; residency in one of medical specialties, preferably in internal medicine. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of 15 years of extensive progressive practical experience after residency in clinical medicine, occupational health and tropical and travel medicine Several years of managerial skills In progressively responsible hospital or occupational medicine setups Working experience as a physician in an international environment, and knowledge of case management functions Is an asset.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required; knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage.

Competency based interview.
