The Technology Solution Global Program (TS) at PATH is developing and advancing a variety of health technologies across a wide range of program areas, including vaccines and immunization, maternal and child health, reproductive health, nutrition, diagnostics, safe water and sanitation, and health information systems. The work is carried out under multiple grants and contracts from governments, private foundations, and private donors. The Strategic Initiatives team is a cross-cutting team within TS to design and develop the next generation business models for accelerating PATH's impact on global health. The team is presently developing a new initiative called the Global Health Innovation Hub, which aims to accelerate access to the most promising technology innovations by building the capacity of technology developers, manufacturers, distributors, and delivery platforms in developing countries, starting with India and South Africa. By enhancing PATH's work with innovators in developing countries, we believe that we can strengthen the link between local needs and technology development, increase access to life saving technologies, while also improving social and economic conditions in low-income countries.

The Business Officer will focus primarily on building the strategy and operations of the Global Health Innovation Hub (GHIH), including the development of key partnerships. The Business Officer will also undertake a variety of market development activities as a member of the Technology Solutions program. In this role, he/she will conduct due diligence, negotiate agreements, and pursue market analyses on a variety of technologies.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Contribute to the conceptual framework and detailed operations for the Global Health Innovation Hub.
  • Develop project collateral for key stakeholders of the Global Health Innovation Hub (presentations, brief, etc.)
  • Work with team to develop fundraising strategy and write proposals to prospective donors for enabling Hub operations
  • Coordinate Hub operations in India, working closely with staff in PATH's Delhi office and key partners
  • Drive technology evaluation efforts, by engaging PATH experts in the process
  • Develop and share key findings and lessons learned across PATH and externally.
  • Conduct market assessments of the commercial viability of potential health products to be developed or currently in development.
  • Perform due diligence on all potential research and development and manufacturing partners and make recommendations to project team for moving forward with the partner.
  • Represent PATH to the international development community, donors, and foreign government officials to facilitate project development and implementation.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently coupled with strong interpersonal skills required to initiate and coordinate projects collaboratively across multiple programs and external parties.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills as well as attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple and diverse projects simultaneously while making progress in the context of changing priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally approximately 15% of the time.

Required Experience
  • Master's in Business Administration (MBA) or related degree, plus a minimum of five years experience in product management or marketing, market research, agreement negotiation, intellectual property management, and commercialization strategy development;
  • may be an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Medical product background and pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience are preferred.
  • Experience in foreign markets, especially developing countries preferred.
  • Fundraising experience desirable.
