International Treatment Preparedness Coalition

The International Treatment Preparedness Coalition (ITPC) is seeking a full-time Senior Communications Officer to advance our mission of enabling communities in need to access HIV treatment. This is a newly created position and is an opportunity for an entrepreneurial professional to design and build platforms and campaigns for internal and external communications by and among staff and stakeholders around the globe in the execution of ITPC's strategic plan. The position will be based at the New York City or Bangkok office of ITPC's global secretariat.

Principal responsibilities of the Communications Officer will be:

• Web Content Creation and Management: Collect and create web site content in collaboration with global and regional staff. In coordination with website developer, maintain treatment information resources and collect resources from ITPC regions on the website. (Technical coding skills are not required but can be helpful).
• Campaigning: Support global advocacy and advance the organization by building and utilizing e-mail and social media campaigns and providing strategic advice to regional networks.
• Press Outreach: Garner press coverage for ITPC Global. Build relationships with editors and reporters. Place op-eds. Build and maintain a database of reporters and press contacts. Draft press releases , fact sheets, media briefings, talking points and other materials as needed. Convene press calls and conferences.
• Internal Coordination: Work with staff from around the world to build and maintain effective processes for collaborating monthly staff calls and creating virtual spaces for staff and Regional Coordinators to gather.
• Impact Monitoring: Develop and maintain systems for aggregating and monitoring the effectiveness of internal and external communications activities. Qualifications:
• Minimum of five years of relevant work experience.
• Strong understanding of and experience working with print, electronic, online, and/or social media .
• Superlative written and verbal communications skills.
• Undergraduate degree is required; graduate degree is a plus.
• Bi- or multi-lingual ability is a plus.
• Knowledge and experience in HIV/AIDS, public health, human rights, or related field is a plus.
• Entrepreneurial spirit; a self-starter comfortable collaborating with staff and consultants at all levels of the organization.
• Reasonable flexibility to enable live contact with colleagues dispersed around the globe in various time zones.
• Commitment to ITPC's mission and to the health and human rights of all people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS is essential. About ITPC:

ITPC is a worldwide network of community activists united by our vision of a longer, healthier and more productive life for people living with HIV and/or AIDS (PLWHA). ITPC's mission is to enable communities in need to access HIV treatment. ITPC was formed in 2003 at a historic meeting of 125 HIV treatment activists, mostly from the global south, that took place in Cape Town, South Africa.

ITPC's activists have dedicated themselves to forming a grassroots, community-driven, bottom-up global movement to ensure that the medications that have improved and prolonged the lives of millions in the western hemisphere can also be accessible to those in the global south and other communities in need. ITPC is the community's response to HIV and as such is driven and led by, and committed to the human rights of, those most impacted by the pandemic. They include gay and other men who have sex with men, women including mothers at risk of transmitting HIV to their children, drug users, sex workers, and other marginalized and vulnerable groups.

Given the incontrovertible recent evidence that treatment can prevent HIV transmission, as well as prolong life and improve health, ITPC's mission today is more critical than ever. Among other accomplishments, ITPC has:

• Formed 12 regional networks in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean and provided $5 million in support.
• Produced eight Missing the Target reports that document at ground level the barriers that prevent access to treatment; disseminated the findings widely to policy makers, civil society partners, activists, donors, and other key actors; and deployed our research in national-level advocacy campaigns in nearly 30 countries.
• Brought PLWHA face-to-face with pharmaceutical drug companies to negotiate for better drug pricing through our World Community Advisory Board.
• Built an electronic network of nearly 1,500 members to drive treatment advocacy and literacy programs.
• Awarded over 1,000 grants totaling close to $10 million dollars to community-based organizations of PLWHA in almost 100 countries. Many of our grantees are grassroots groups that accessed ITPC support when no other funding was available to them.
• Convened our grantees and network members in advocacy campaigns at the local, country, regional, and global levels.
• Held governments, bilateral, and multi-lateral organizations around the world accountable for providing access to treatment and care to PLWHA and those most affected.
