Job Description
As a Senior Technical Writer at Rackspace, you collaborate with engineers, system architects, user-experience designers, and other writers to create documentation for Rackspace Cloud products. Based on source material gathered from whiteboard talks, brainstorming sessions, interviews with subject-matter experts and engineering notes, you create clear, accurate and effective documentation for developers who consume the Rackspace/OpenStack APIs and as well as internal and external system administrators who use Rackspace Cloud products. As a member of our doc team, you'll be valued for your technical and subject-matter expertise in the areas you document. You'll be expected to develop your own understanding of our products, our audience, our business objectives, and our standards, and then use that knowledge holistically to craft documentation that contributes to your product’s Fanatical Support-readiness.

Responsibilities:
- Write API conceptual, task-oriented, and reference information
- Develop full-featured help systems including tool tips, on-screen guidance, and traditional help text
- Work with user experience designers to design crisp, clear language to use on labels, on-screen text for GUIs, and error messages
- Personally test services and capabilities that you document, to ensure doc accuracy and completeness
- Participate actively in doc and product planning discussions
- Contribute to continuous improvement of doc standards, tools, and processes More about the Rackspace Cloud

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in technical writing or related field
- Minimum of 5 years technical writing experience
- Background in several of the following areas: networking technology, Restful APIs, Cloud Computing, Unix/Linux or Windows Servers, databases, and automating system administration with scripts
- An understanding of web technologies such as HTML, XML, etc.
- Ability to work both independently and on a team
- Ability to cope with changing requirements in a fast-moving environment
- Ability to write clean, concise text without editorial support

Highly desirable skills:
- Experience writing programming guides and API reference information
- Experience developing help systems
- Experience writing modular information that can be used in more than one context
- Experience working with DocBook or DITA is a plus, as is experience working in an Agile environment
- Experience using a source control system, such as Perforce, cvs, git, or subversion
