This could include user research, market research and consumer trend analysis. The Industrial designer identifies innovation opportunities and may provide solutions that may alter the development of the product.
Refine chosen design direction. Based on complexity of design and requirements of the project, a CAD model may be created as well as multiple prototypes in order to fully develop the design language and functionality. Understanding and hands-on knowledge of manufacturing processes is needed. The designer will be required to manage vendors in the creation of prototypes or source materials for the evaluation or feasibility of the design direction.
Release Design to manufacturing. The Designer will work closely with Mechanical and Electrical engineering to develop documentation that fully communicates the design intent to manufacturing. The designer will be responsible for First Article Inspection of parts and final assemblies and any changes needed based on DFM reports or Contract manufacturer feedback. Travel to Contract Manufacturers or Vendors outside the USA may be required. Marketing assets such as renderings and animations will be the responsibility of the Industrial Designer.
