General Information
Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis within colleges to academically talented students who complete the online WSU Continuing Student Scholarship Application. Applicants are considered for scholarships based on the eligibility criteria as listed in the scholarship descriptions. Unless stated to the contrary in the scholarship descriptions, recipients must be registered as full-time students in order to use the scholarship funds to pay their fees. The majority of these scholarships are merit based. If documented need is listed as required, applicants should file the 2012-2013 FreeApplication for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the February 15, 2012 priority deadline date.How to Apply
1. Scholarships are awarded on an "as funds are available basis."2. Due to limited scholarship funds, most committees do not give serious consideration to students who have earned fewer than 45 credit hours at Wright State by the end of Fall Quarter 2011.
3. To qualify as a Continuing Undergraduate Student you must have earned hours and a "competitive" cumulative GPA, both earned at Wright State University.
4. Be sure your online application is submitted by 11:59 p.m. on March 1, 2012.
5. The online application will require:
- An essay stating your interests, future goals, and background experience. Prepare now! Type your essay and store in a Word document (3,500 characters allowed, approx. 500-600 words). If copied and pasted from MS Word, please do not use formatting like indentations or bullets. Please proofread before saving.
- A list of extra-curricular activities, community service, offices held, and awards or honors received is required. Prepare now! Type your list and store in a Word document (2,000 characters allowed). Only include information relevant during your post-secondary studies. This list will be reviewed carefully by the scholarship committee(s). Be sure to include details of involvement and corresponding dates. If no post-secondary activities are applicable, provide an explanation for the committee to review.
- Contact information for one confidential recommendation form. You will list the e-mail address, name, title and phone number for an instructor or professor who has knowledge of your academic work and ability (2,000 characters allowed). Please be sure to contact your intended reference prior to listing him/her. An e-mail will be sent to your reference asking them to complete an online academic recommendation form for you.
7. Applicants can check WINGS Express to see when the application form and reference were received in the Office of Financial Aid or if the reference form is still required.
8. College Scholarship award decisions are made by June 15 and awards will be posted by July 15. Students will receive an e-mail via their WSU e-mail account regarding any posting to their Award Notice which is available in WINGS Express.
Description of University Scholarships for Continuing Students
Applicants compete for scholarships with other applicants who are enrolled in the same college. Recipients are selected by a committee comprised of faculty members from their college. Scholarships are for one year and range from $300 to $8,000.In addition to the university scholarships listed below, some departments or divisions may offer other scholarships to continuing students. Check with the chair in your academic department.
