Position Description
Medtronic Peripheral Medical Science Liaisons (MSL) will operate as a clinical resource to health care professionals and internal business partners. The role of the MSL is to provide a peer to peer scientific/clinical relationship with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in health care, education, and research. The MSL will collaborate with KOLs and internal stakeholders to identify potential collaboration opportunities in the areas of clinical research, education, & publications/podium presentations. The MSL will provide oversight to requests for technical or clinical information as requested by physicians utilizing Medtronic products and services. The primary focus of this position will be U.S. academic research centers and select international centers where external research projects are managed by SBU.

Position Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:
• Develop mutually beneficial relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in their defined geography and internal business partners. The MSL will develop relationships with KOLs in academic research centers, develop and execute podium strategies partnering with key functional partners in BU, and provide support as needed for physician initiated external research projects, and publications.
• Serve as the key representative of Medtronic Endovascular for health care professionals, providing deep and advanced disease state and product information as well as facilitating the work of the thought leader when it aligns with the Medtronic mission.
• Understand and effectively communicate current scientific knowledge. MSLs will be required to maintain their technical expertise within a therapeutic area to engage in scientific discussions with KOLs and Thought Leaders.
• Engage in continuous learning within the therapeutic area they represent. As a result, the Medical Liaisons will establish themselves as reliable, trusted resources of accurate, up-to-date medical and scientific knowledge requested and desired by their clients.
• Respond in a timely way to personal or electronic inquiries with any available information which may include reprints or posters, medical letters, literature citations, access to internal and external experts, slides and other teaching-related material
• Effectively manage administrative activities. The Medical Liaison job entails not only scientific and customer expertise, but also requires the ability to understand and effectively utilize approved resources to fulfill administrative, procedural, and legal requirements in order to address the customer needs. The MSL will also be responsible for following the Medtronic Code of Conduct, the MSL Department Operating Procedures and the ADVAMED guidelines.
• Provide product and disease state training support when necessary to the local sales representatives
• Attend scientific meetings to continue to maintain their clinical and scientific knowledge base, and report on activities (utilization in educational venues, presentations at congresses, utilization for publications, etc.)
• Gather feedback and insights from Thought Leaders, to better inform Medtronic’s research and overall strategic direction

Basic Qualifications
• Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, Ph.D., M.D.) with minimum 4 years of relevant clinical or therapeutic experience. Masters or Bachelors level degree in health sciences considered if 5 or more years of clinical or industry experience in cardiovascular therapeutic area is present. Preferably experience in pharma, biotech and or/medical devices.
• Develop demonstrated success in effective interpersonal and communication skills and ability to build and foster relationships with Key Opinion Leaders.
• Intellectual curiosity and intelligence about the field of science/medicine for which they are responsible.
• Highly motivated and capable of comprehending large amounts of scientific content, which is then communicated in a clear, concise fashion.
• Significant direct experience in servicing customer needs for complex information.
• Demonstrated ability to work with often demanding or difficult clients.
• Significant experience and success in self-managing priorities and multitasking projects.
• Strong teamwork/Interpersonal skills.
• Advanced presentation and computer skills with expertise in literature identification and evaluation.
• Significant experience in professional networking with positive mutually beneficial outcomes.
• Field based job with much travel, both by automobile and air, depending on geography.
• Ability to use field-based electronic or other communication tools for all aspects of job is critical.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications
Prior MSL experience in the pharmaceutical or medical device industries. Endovascular field experience and therapy knowledge preferred.
